Domain registration information is public

ICANN, the company that assigns domain names, demands that your domain ownership information be published in a public "Whois" database. To prevent people from using your information for spam, telemarketing, data mining... you need to purchase an Arsys Private Whois service to hide your personal information.

How does Private Whois protect you?

With our identity protection service, Private Whois, you can hide the personal information published in the Whois record: your name as the domain's title owner (with the exception of .es and .cat), your email, your phone number and your mailing address.

We'll show information about the virtual office instead of your details. Don't worry. We will forward you all communication related to your domain name.

What is shown in the Whois Domain?

When you register a domain, your personal information must appear in a public database, Whois. This means that anyone can access your data and use them for spam, telemarketing, datamining...

Billing

How is a Private Whois billed?

You choose the form of payment which best adapts to your needs: bank transfer (which means we will also require an account number to which we will automatically charge any future renewal invoices) or credit card (which will also be used for renewals). Remember that you can change from one form of payment to another in your Client Area whenever you like.

Private Whois is billed together with the associated domain, on a yearly basis. If you buy this for a domain which you have bought previously, an initial prorated invoice will be issued for the months remaining until the renewal of the domain and then it will be renewed along with it.

How does the Private Whois promotion work?

You can try the first year of the Private Whois service for free and then it will be renewed for the price of €9/year.

Functionality

How can I hide my personal details so they're not visible in Whois queries on my domain?

It is possible to hide your domains' ownership and contact details by activating the Identity Protection service (Private Whois). This service allows you to protect your personal details by substituting them with details of a virtual office that will serve as the intermediary and forward you messages related to your domain name.

Why hire Private Whois if I can put false ownership data in the register of my domain?

According to the regulations set out by ICANN, the contact details published in a domain's Whois must be real and always allow the domain's owner or contact to be reached. The Identity Protection service (Private Whois) meets all the requirements of the regulations set out by ICANN in this regard, since it allows any user to contact the domain's registrant or contact without their personal details being visible in online databases.

How can I activate Private Whois service?

The Private Whois service can be activated from your Client Area (for those domains that you already manage here) or when you register or transfer a new domain.

Can I deactivate the Whois service whenever I want?

You can activate and deactivate the service at any time. You can also occasionally make the property data visible in the Whois. This is very useful should you need to display the domain ownership details, when purchasing an SSL Security Certificate, for example.

With which domains can I activate Private Whois?

The Private Whois service is available for the following extensions: .com, .es, .cat, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .ws, .cc, .mobi, .cc, .com.es, .nom.es, .org.es and .tv.
